T-Mobile Team May Update

(May 30, 2007) The men and women of the T-Mobile Team have been prominently placed on podiums throughout Europe recently.   Gerald Ciolek won the Tour of Rheinland-Pfalz on May 20. Going into the final stage, the U-23 World Champion was in second place by one second. He placed fourth on the final stage into Koblenz and overturned the deficit courtesy of bonus seconds won at sprint intervals.   In the Tour of Catalonia, T-Mobile Team Captain Michael Rogers placed second overall at the end of the 7-day stage race on Sunday May 27th.  Russian Vladimir Karpets (Caisse d’Epargne) won the event. T-Mobile’s Mark Cavendish won two stages AND the Green Jersey at the Tour of Catalonia. Said T-Mobile Sporting Director Jan Schaffrath, "We placed a rider in the top five on every stage. The race was the perfect form-test for our stage race specialists. Mark's two stage wins and Michael's podium place was a great haul.”   And in the first week of the Giro d’Italia, Marco Pinotti wore the maglia rosa for four days. After an amateur career that saw him notch up 28 wins, Pinotti turned pro in 1999 after completing his engineering studies. The Italian has since notched up five pro wins, but the capture of the Giro’s pink jersey was certainly his biggest career success to-date. “I have never worn the leader’s jersey at a tour. I am so happy I could hug the whole world," said the smiling Pinotti”   The T-Mobile Women’s Team had a great showing at the Tour de l’Aude. Judith Arndt held onto the yellow jersey for most of the weeklong stage race in France. It was taken from her by two-time World Champion Susanne Ljungskog (Flexpoint) of Switzerland in the stage on Saturday, May 26th. And the next day, even though Ina-Yoko Teutenberg won the final stage of the race, Arndt slipped to third overall on the GC.   Still, the week's haul of three individual stage wins through Linda Villumsen, Judith Arndt and Ina Teutenberg, as well as the team's TTT stage win, and Arndt’s third overall was extremely impressive. "It was a very successful week her for us. The team won four stages, Judith wore yellow for six days and finished the race on the podium," said T-Mobile Team sporting director Anna Wilson. "For sure the overall win would have been the icing on the cake, but we are delighted with the results overall.”   The T-Mobile Team rides the Giant TCR Advanced T-Mobile Team Bicycle. Complete details of team results can be found at:   www.t-mobile-team.com
