4 DAYS IN PINK FOR PINOTTI!
(May 21, 2007) Marco Pinotti has kept the maglia rosa for 4 days!! The T-Mobile Team rider, racing atop a Giant TCR Advanced T-Mobile Team bicycle, has led the G.C. of the Giro d’Italia race for four of its nine stages so far. At the end of the 9th stage, Pinotti’s hold on the pink jersey is :28, over Italy’s Andrea Noe.
This is a terrific showing for the men in magenta in this European Grand Tour, especially considering that three T-Mobile riders have been forced out of the race due to illness or injury. Pinotti has only five teammates to help him hold onto the maglia rosa.
“They have done it with their heart,” said Pinotti after stage 8 on Sunday. “"Axel Merckx, Lorenzo Bernucci and my other team mates worked really hard during the stage. Keeping the jersey is like winning the stage for us. It's going to be hard to keep it in the next few days but we'll try."
