2008 ITU SEASON OPENS IN CHILE WITH A WINNING START FOR GREAT BRITAIN
The attention of the athletics World was focused on South America this week as the ITU season opened on January 7th in Vina del Mar, Chile, with the first World Ranking event of 2008. The races highlight was an impressive start for Great Britain’s Helen Tucker riding Giant, who won the event nearly 4 minutes ahead of pre-race local favourite Barbara Riveros Diaz of Chile.
Helen who led from the start, finished in a time of 1 hour 56 minutes and 14 seconds. The win elevated Helen’s World ranking dramatically from 116th to 61st in the world, a fantastic comeback after 9 months of injury. Another win will elevate her position further and place qualification for Beijing firmly in her sights.
Congratulations Helen!
