TRIATHLON TEAM SEASON REPORT

Richard Stannard celebrating his victory in Windsor.

This season proved to be a very unpredictable one for most of the triathletes. We’ve been plagued with illness and injury throughout 2007, although this appears to be a problem not just restricted to the Giant team as a number of other GB athletes have also suffered with various problems. This has been frustrating but is obviously uncontrollable; it’s the nature of sport. We have the best girls in the UK on the bike and one of the best men (hopefully 2 if my operations turn out as I hope). In Richard Stannard the team has, due to his efforts this year, one of the better known international GB athletes with great potential to achieve in the future.

Andrea Whitcombe had a solid season and, considering the amount of races she took part in, her achievements set up 2008 to be even better. She won the UK Corus series and came 2nd in London. She also had some fantastic international results the best of which was 2nd place at the Rhodes World Cup

Olly Freeman had a great start to the year finishing in the two five at two World Cup races. This seemed to set up the possibility of a strong mid-season but unfortunately he broke his foot at the European Championships which prevented any further race participation.

Richard, after some strong placings in early season races, won in Windsor which is one of the biggest and most recognised events on the UK triathlon scene.

As for Helen Tucker, Henny Freeman and myself injury and illness stopped our seasons before they really got started. However, the rest and treatment has really had a positive affect and 2008 will no doubt be better for us all.

20th Mooloolaba World Cup.

Injured for the remainder of the season. Has recently had a cortisone injection in her heel which appears at this stage to have been successful.

Henny Freeman.

Diagnosed with Fatigue Syndrome at the start of the year which caused her to have to rest and miss the season.

Injured for the season. Currently recovering from tendon operations which seem to have been successful. My doctors are pleased with the results so far. Recent swimming and cycling sessions have been pain free.
