Born 10 years ago, Mountain Mayhem, this year sponsored by Giant and T-Mobile, has rapidly established itself as the biggest mountain biking event in the UK, and this year was no exception. With over 2,000 riders taking part and 15,000 spectators attending during the weekend’s events, this year’s event was the biggest turn out ever.

Not only was this year’s event by far the best in its ten year history, it was also one of the muddiest and challenging events ever, with parts of the course already being quoted in mountain biking folklore. Amongst the record breaking 490 teams that took part were riders from all walks of life, from some of the world’s top professional mountain bikers, celebrity sportsmen, ex England footballers to the amazing unicycle team, and a mountain biking banana!

Patrick Adams, event organiser was in awe of the commitment and dedication of the riders at this year’s event, “The course was particularly challenging this year without the weather conditions, so to achieve what they achieved in the wet and muddy conditions was absolutely amazing. I have seen Mountain Mayhem grow over the last ten years into what is now a fantastic family weekend mountain biking event and it gives me so much pleasure to be a part of it.”
Collette Clensy of head of marketing for Giant UK said, “We have been involved in Mountain Mayhem from the very first year and have loved every one of them, but this year’s event was truly spectacular, never before have we had so many teams, riders and spectators involved, even though the weather was more becoming to a wet weekend in Glastonbury, all the activities went brilliantly. The Giant Dirt Demo area was a big hit with the spectators, and the outdoor evening cinema was the perfect ending to the day. We can’t wait to see what next year’s event brings.”
To mark the tenth anniversary of the event the T-Mobile Giant Mountain Mayhem team added a number of special features to this years challenge, the outdoor door cinema was a new addition which will undoubtedly become an annual feature of the weekend, but unquestionably the most bizarre must have been the ‘T-Mobile Beat Track’ - two all night DJ podiums equipped with full light show and banging music that were situated at two points along the race track providing a splash of entertainment to the riders as they took on the gruelling course and conditions. Proving that T-Mobile Giant Mountain Mayhem is no longer a UK exclusive event, there were more riders than ever from across the globe that came to take on the challenge, including a team of American servicemen who had taken vacation from Afghanistan to take on the hills and dales of Eastnor, as well as riders from Ireland, Spain, Australia, Sweden, America and Brazil.
