Giant Manufacturing has discovered a potential quality issue with the model year 2012 Defy Advanced and Avail Advanced lines of bicycles. During routine testing undertaken as part of the manufacturing process, it was discovered that the forks on these bicycles did not meet specifications and, as a result, there is the potential for the fork blades to crack under severe riding conditions. Owners of these bicycles should immediately stop riding these bicycles and follow the directions below.

Affected Models

The following models of complete bikes are affected:

MY12 Defy Advanced series:

 Defy Advanced 2
 Defy Advanced 3

MY12 Avail Advanced series:
 Avail Advanced 2

Again, these bicycles should not be ridden until the potential problem with the fork is resolved.

After the replacement program is formally initiated, Giant Bicycle Co. PtyLtd will coordinate the replacement of the forks on the affected bicycles through its local dealers.

Giant has not received any reports of accidents or injuries involving this issue. However, as Giant Bicycle Co. PtyLtd’s first priority is customer safety and satisfaction, it is taking this action out of an abundance of caution.
