Kruijswijk Wins Tour de Suisse Stage!
16 Ιουνίου 2011
Rabobank continued its impressive week of racing at the Tour de Suisse Thursday, when 24-year-old Dutchman Steven Kruijswijk climbed to a win on the mountainous sixth stage of the nine-day race. Kruijswijk attacked on his Giant TCR Advanced SL two kilometers from the summit finish of the 157.7km stage atop the hors categorie Triesenberg/Malbun climb. It was his first win as a professional.
It was a perfect day of racing for the Rabobank team, which leads the team classification and now has Bauke Mollema and Kruijswijk sitting second and third overall — plus Laurens ten Dam in sixth. All three Rabobank riders were in the elite group of climbers battling at the front in the mountains of Stage 6.
Kruijswijk has made a splash on the pro circuit this year, establishing himself as one of the sport’s top young riders. Last month he finished in the top-10 at the Giro d’Italia.
The 75th Tour de Suisse continues Friday with another day in the mountains including the hors categorie climb over Flüelappass. The race concludes on Sunday, with a decisive 32.1km time trial.
