Neethling Crowned Continental Champ
|
Neethling got off to a fast start, winning his first major race for Giant just a month after joining the team.
South African downhill racer Andrew Neethling scored his first major victory on a Giant bike, winning the men’s downhill event Saturday at the African Continental Mountain Bike Championships in Jonkershoek, South Africa.
Neethling recently signed on with the Giant Factory Off-Road Team, and is focused on the UCI World Cup DH Series in 2011. Last year he finished fourth at a World Cup in Val di Sole, Italy, and was 16th overall in the series.
The 26-year-old Neethling won this weekend's African title on his new Giant Glory team bike. His time of 2:03.57 was nearly three seconds faster than the silver medalist, who happened to be Andrew’s brother Jonty Neethling.
