Lars Boom of the Rabobank team sprinted to a win at Stage 6 of the Tour of Britain Friday, extending his overall lead in the eight-day stage race.
Boom’s Rabobank teammates helped him defend his lead on the challenging 150km stage from Taunton to Wells. The Dutch rider, a former World Champion in cyclocross, made the key move when he joined a break of 21 riders that escaped on Old Bristol Hill. In the finishing sprint Boom powered his Giant TCR Advanced SL to his second stage win of the race.
Boom now leads the General Classification by 28 seconds over Czech rider Leopold Konig. Three stages remain, including a short time trial and a criterium stage on Sunday.
