Sanchez Scores Stage Win at Romandie!
27 April 2012
Rabobank rider Luis Léon Sanchez continued his momentum Friday with a big stage win at the Tour de Romandie. Sanchez, who came close with a third-place finish on Thursday's stage, stayed at the front of the action in the 157km Stage 3 from La Neuveville to Charmey and then blasted to the win on his Giant TCR Advanced SL.
The stage win earned Sanchez a 10-second time bonus, which moved him from sixth overall to second, just 1 second behind general classicication leader Bradley Wiggins of Great Britain. The entire Rabobank has ridden well in the first half or the Tour de Romandie, an important six-day WorldTour race in Switzerland that often reveals contenders for the upcoming grand tours.
After three stages, three Rabobank riders—Sanchez, Bauke Mollema and Stef Clement—were in the top-five in general classification. The race continues through the weekend and concludes with a decisive 16.5km time trial on Sunday.
