World Champ Gets His First Win of 2012!

World Champion Danny Hart of the Giant Factory Off-Road Team scored his first win of the season, taking round 2 of the Halo British Downhill Series at Fort William, Scotland, on Saturday.
Severe weather at Nevis Range, the mountain resort hosting the second round of the series, caused event organizers to shorten the weekend, making Saturday’s seeding rounds count for the finals. Hart, who won the Downhill World Championship in Switzerland last September, rode his Giant Glory to the win, beating fellow Brit Marc Beaumont by .521 seconds.
Hart’s victory was more remarkable because he derailed his chain during the run and had to negotiate the final sections without pedaling.
“Losing the chain made winning more special as I had to roll it home and tuck in when I could,” Hart said.
The world champ spent the week in Ft. William, training for the BDS event and also the World Cup, which resumes later this month.
“Spending the last few days here helped today,” Hart said. “I came here to prepare for the World Cup in a couple of weeks. My parents have been here with me, my mechanic has got the bike sorted, so I’m ready to do better than last year.”
